WebIt turns out the flicking during dark scenes is the cause of having “Game Mode” enabled on my tv while watching the movie. I turned this feature off and my issue was immediately fixed. If this (very useful) setting is activated, in black background scenes you will always notice a flicker which I personally find very annoying. This only happens for SDR content (all of them, for me) while it never happens with HDR / DV content. My tv is a 2024 Sony A8.

Then ignore the brightness and contrast settings there. Just tell it to skip those adjustments as they are for non-HDR adjustments. You can also just ignore the other tests, but may want to do cleartype, or not.
