WebSep 9, 2024 · Musicians Steve & Cassie Gaines, of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame, will be honored in their hometown of Miami on Saturday, September 8, 2024, during Miami’s Festi Fall. Steve and Cassie’s died on Oct. 20, 1977, in a Gillsburg, Mississippi plane crash while traveling to their next performance. Gaines was invited by JoJo Billingsley and Ronnie Van Zant to join Lynyrd Skynyrd as a backup singer.
